The French national team single-handedly topped the standings of Group B of the Euro 2024 qualification, beating Ireland on the road with a score of 1:0. The assets of the “tricolor” have six points after two rounds.
Going to Dublin is not an easy task for any team. The Irish, though inferior in skill to the same French or English, but they fight until the last seconds. So the wards of Didier Deschamps had to sweat to return home with three points scored. Interestingly, the only goal was scored not by Kylian Mbappe or Antoine Griezmann, but by defender Benjamin Pavar.
It should be noted that France effectively started in the qualifying round, winning two victories with a goal difference of 5:0. Apparently, the decision of the football federation of this country to leave Didier Deschamps, who has been working in the national team for 11 years, turned out to be correct.
– I see how the guys are progressing. We do not get tired of success and try to improve all the time. It was a tough match in Dublin. However, there is no other way at this stadium. We didn’t have many chances, they defended very well, and in the end they were a danger at our goal, especially at the standards. The guys did well – they withstood the onslaught. I am proud of how the team performed in the last two meetings,” Deschamps stressed.
France midfielder Adrien Rabiot agrees with Deschamps: “In Ireland we faced an opponent who was sitting deep in his own penalty area. It was incredibly difficult for us against such a fighting and high-quality team. We respected Ireland and understood perfectly well that they would have a completely different football than at home with the Netherlands. Nevertheless, we scored six points after two rounds. It’s great,” Rabiot said.
According to the leader of the French national team, Kylian Mbappe, the “tricolor” should set themselves only one task – to win the European Championship.
